Exercise and the brain

We ALL know we should be doing exercise. Moving our body, using our muscles and getting our heart rate up. At Spirohealth, it is very much part of our holistic approach to health.

If health is one of your top core values, you will get your sessions in with no problems at all but if it’s low on your priority list… let’s face it…you won’t.

So the big question is, ‘What is the smallest amount of exercise per week that I need to do to still get some key advantages for my brain and my body?’

It’s said to be 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week. Other literature will say 20 minutes everyday. So it’s not running a marathon or 2 hours a day in the gym.

What are some of the nervous system benefits of exercise?

1. Improved memory through the hippocampus increase in volume

2. Improved moods from dopamine, serotonin and nor adrenaline release

3. Protection in the longer term of Neuro degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
