Is too much screen time affecting your child’s posture?

What is screen time and how is it affecting your family?

It is more than likely that the use of iPhones and iPads are affecting your child’s posture even if
you limit the time they use them. There are also many other things contributing to poor posture.
With children spending more and more time sitting at school, on computers, in cars, carrying
heavy school bags, computer games and watching TV. Not to mention all the falls kids might
have.

Spending a lot of time on mobile devices can change the angle of the head, which puts additional
strain on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the neck. They also tend to round their
shoulders forward, which creates additional wear on the back and the upper part of the spine.

Prolonged sitting and poor posture can also compress your organs, which has a negative effect on
the digestive system and lung function. Poor posture can also cause headaches, jaw pain, lack of
concentration and affect your mood.

When children develop a bad posture and bad habits, the effects can be long lasting and affect
them in adulthood. Poor posture can also cause the spinal cord to change shape, which can create
chronic pain and affect balance.

If you are concerned about your child’s posture please bring them into Spirohealth for a complementary chat
and I can have a look at their posture. I am passionate about helping children correct their
posture and educating them on how to maintain good posture.
