Let’s talk Spinal Disc Issues

Let’s talk spinal disc issues, disc problems, disc herniations, disc bulges. So if you heard any of these words, let’s explain it to you.

The spine has got three curves. One in the neck, one in the mid-back and one down in the low back. Now these curves are really important because when you go running or walking around, those curves absorb shock. So massive shock absorber. The second shock absorber is in fact your disc system, which are discs, intervertebral discs that sit between the vertebrae here, which are like your building blocks, like Lego pieces. They’re about 70% water, so always a great idea to drink water and keep yourself hydrated.

Now, structurally, from our perspective here at Spirohealth in Putney, we do something called Advanced Biostructural Correction. Quite the mouthful. It’s called ABC. The basic premise is when we have bones that are stuck forward to these little vertebrae, we don’t have any muscles behind us to correct them. So therefore, when they go forward, unlucky for you, they stay there. But the body doesn’t just stay there, it twists up to compensate. So where these twists are is usually where you get these spinal disc issues – bulges, disc tension, disc herniation. So when anyone comes into my office with disc problems, whether it’s neck or lower back, I’m actually looking at other places to see how I can help them.

The second system worth talking about, which will explain why orthopedic surgeons, there was a study done with orthopedic surgeons who looked at a number of reports, X-rays, MRIs, looked at these people and said, well, we would operate straight away on that disc. They didn’t have one symptom. They’re walking around with these disc bulges, disc herniations with not any symptoms. And this is down to a system called the meningeal system. The meninges, fancy word, when it’s inflamed, is called meningitis. So the meninges, I want you to think of it and imagine it like a skin. It covers the brain, covers the spinal cord. It’s got three layers to it. So it’s really loose, like really loose like a loose shirt. But when you’ve had a situation in time where bones have gone forward in the spine and the body’s twisted up, it isn’t so loose anymore and it gets caught up. Causes these are natural things. They’re called scars or adhesions. They’re natural processes to stabilize you. The problem is this affects how you function because it affects how your body communicates on a nervous system level. So healing goes down the drain, energy goes down the drain, hormones. I mean, I could go on for a list.

If you have a tight meningeal system and the smallest little spinal disc bulge, you can have so much pain, so many symptoms. But you could have a massive disc bulge and a really loose meningeal system and then not necessarily have the symptoms. So this is why we have such good results with ABC, with disc herniation, disc bulges and disc problems. (We stretch out meningeal adhesions)
